4 tips for Extending the Lifespan of your Carpet

Bringing soil into your carpet space is inevitable, unless you never want to leave your office! There are ways that you can improve soil prevention and keep your carpets clean for longer.

1. Use Mats!

Mats are an amazing resource that can control the amount of soil that goes beyond them. With this being said, they should be placed at every entryway, where people are bringing soil on to the carpet from outside sources. Barrier mats should be quite large, so both shoes can fit on the mat as you walk inside, for up to 3 steps. That way, there is enough time and space for the soil to be absorbed. In addition to being up to 3 steps long, they should be wide enough to cover the entire entry way, incase a few people are walking through at a time.

Mats at each individual desk are also a great option. Plastic mats can be a good addition in these areas, because, wet soils can be tougher to remove from carpets. Since the desk is where people spend most of their time, it is more likely that they will spill something, like coffee, while working.

It’s important to remember to clean your mats, too! They can become full of soil and can eventually prove useless, once enough soil is absorbed.

2. Get your employees on board!

If the company is all on the same page about keeping the office clean, people will be held responsible for things such as cleaning up spills. The faster you tend to stains, the more likely you are to get it out. Especially wet stains, like coffee.

3. Rugs

If you want to spice up the looks of your office, a carpet friendly option is to get some rugs! Rugs not only create a friendly environment but they protect the carpet beneath them. Just like the mats, it is important to keep the rugs clean as well.

4. Regular vacuuming and periodic deep cleans with a Reputable Commercial Company

Regular vacuuming can drastically help the cleanliness of your carpet. It can capture almost all of the dry soil that makes it’s way into the carpet. The problem is, there are also water-soluble and solvant-soluble soils that sneak into the office carpets as well. They cannot be easily cleaned with a vacuum, so it is important to have your carpet deep cleaned, every once and a while.
